The Beast has it's first flowers!

My fabric is here!!

It's a golden yellow, and black for the over kirtle. I'm going to wash it and dry it tonight, iron it tomorrow and take the gold to sewing circle Friday. I just might have it all put together by next Saturday!!

Border done!

I have completed the border all the way around "the Beast", which is what I'm considering calling the Blackwork Project. It's shorter and fits. This is a hell of a thing I've taken on.

First band is flowers. Green for the vine work and blue or red for the flowers. Maybe both. I don't know.

October University

So I have been tasked with looking around Greenville for sites for October (3rd) University. If I can find something, and the Shire agrees, we will bid on it.

I would be the autocrat (Lord help me!!).

This would be a good event to get my feet wet with, because there is no feast, it's a day trip event (no camping), and if all goes as I'm envisioning, it will be in Greenville, which means no significant travel times for me.

175 - 375 people. Their Majesties (not sure right now if it would be TRM Logan and Esa or the new King and Queen that will be selected by right of arms May 2.)

Being a list of notes and thoughts on how to make travel/site/eventing an easier/cheaper/less stressful happening.

1. Setting the tone of the day:
   
   We woke up at 4am, with a scheduled departure time of 5am.
   
   
   Everyone went to bed about midnight. This is a mistake when getting up at 4am.
   
   
   Did not factor in breakfast time.
   
   
   ACTION ITEM: Add 30 minutes for breakfast/coffee/general malaise and crankiness.


2. Maps
   
   Mapblast directions do not include directional indicators, such as 70(West). All they list is 70. This is bad bad bad, especially on the back roads of North Carolina.
   
   
   Had no return direction, which cost us an hour being lost and driving to Yanceyville and back, having to get out of the car in garb and speaking to the slack eyed and drooling graveyard shift convenience store clerk, who had never heard of Greenville.
   
   
   ACTION ITEM:Print out Mapblast, Mapquest, and Google maps directions to AND FROM site, and more importantly, NEVER LET JEROT NAVIGATE. This will save 2 hours of argument in the vehicle, and probably driving to Yanceyville in the middle of the night.


3. Health/Well Being:
   
   ACTION ITEM:Bring foamy sunscreen and apply every 2-3 hours. Do not tell Lady Morwenna we have some when we don't out of a weird sense of shame for not thinking about it. This leads to sunburned faces, necks, shoulders, chests, arms. Luckily it was just a little pink this time.


4. Comfort: The gazebo and chairs were a BRILLIANT idea!
   
   Buy the matching tan wind walls and the sand bag things (and sand!)
   
   
   Get the sheets out within the next few weeks and come up with some well placed stitches to keep the sheets on the chairs. (Velcro??)
   
   
   Wooden TV trays OR a card table (with cover) for the middle of the gazebo would be a good thing.
   
   
   Extra sheets for covering things Just In Case.
   
   
   The cooler idea is a great one. Supplement with a large tupperware storage tote with NONE refrigerated food items and various sheets/covers/nonperishables.
   
   
   Get a Cathanar banner to display on the side/back of gazebo.


5. Feast Style: (or, How not to look like a schlub at the table with some careful planning and purchasing.)
   
   Wooden box (or large-ish tupperware container with cover) for wooden feast gear/napkins/cover, the few glass goblets/bowls we have/candles/lighter.
   
   
   Pack silver silverware. Like, real KNIVES (butter and steak), forks, spoons instead of the wooden salad tossers currently in place. Keep those though, because they are excellent dishing up spoons.
   
   
   Burlap sack for dirty dishes FOR THE WIN!!
   
   
   Keep tealight candles stocked WITH LIGHTER.
   
   
   Keep a large table cover (sheet) in the feast gear box.
   
   
   FLASHLIGHT IN THE FEAST BOX!!


6. Actually USE the camera.

The Red Dress and a Viking Funeral

I completed the red dress this morning. The hem and hand-sewn trim and even the Order of the Opal badge lined in Atlantia blue.

The Viking Funeral went well, I think. Lord Rycharde made a viking longboat (I'll post pictures when I get them) and we all went down to the Pamlico Sound at sunset and everyone got floating candles. Lord Richard lit the boat as the Order of the Blue Scarf (a Rapier Academy) presented arms. The boat was pushed into the water. Lord Con presented Saffiya Sayyida with a plaque, read Lord Mark Dene's awards and affiliations, then everyone lit their candles and put them in the water as milady Daci played her recorder. A DVD will be made, and I will post it on the Cathanar website, as I am the new Webminister for the Shire of Cathanar.

Red Dress Update

I got the gores cut out.

I got the sleeves cut out, sewn together, and fray checked.

I need to iron the seam down, which will prolly be Saturday morning, as I have Mark's memorial today, and the Viking funeral tomorrow evening. I'll at least do the seams, but will prolly sew the front and back shoulders together Saturday.

Sunday I will prolly get the gores on the front/back pieces, up to the waistline, and if I have time, get the sleeves on it.

I have 7 days to get this done, but can't count tonight or tomorrow night. Getting down to the wire.

Then, once I'm done getting it put together, I'm going to need someone to pin it near the bust while it's on me, so I won't have to wear a bra. Then I slink out of it, and sew it up the pins, to make it tighter. The gores are going to be pretty big, but I'd like to wear petticoats under the skirt portion, so that should work out fine.

He was taken from us before we could really get to know him well, but we knew him well enough to be deeply saddened by his loss. His knowledge, wit, laughter and loving spirit will be sorely missed.
